I see earthworms every day, and I haven’t thought much about them.

Then one day I heard something on the radio that made me decide I would like to know more about them, I will share some of what I learned by writing a Pantoum Poem about earthworms.

Earthworms Pantoum Poetry

Earthworms are commonly found living in soil, feeding on live and dead organic matter.
An earthworm’s digestive system runs through the length of its body.
Circumferential and longitudinal muscles on the periphery of each segment enable the worm to move.
Each individual earthworm carries both male and female sex organs.

Grooves called “furrows” are generally externally visible on the body marking the segments

Dorsal pores and nephridiopore’s exude a fluid that moistens and protects the worm’s surface, allowing it to breathe.

Special ventral setae are used to anchor mating earthworms by their penetration into the bodies of their mates.

Earthworms do not have eyes, however, they do have specialized photosensitive cells called “light cells of Hess”.

More interesting facts.

Mating occurs on the surface, most often at night.

Earthworms have the ability to regenerate lost segments, but this ability varies between species and depends on the extent of the damage. – Interesting, I always wonder what happen to the worm when I accidentally cut them with the spade in the garden, hope I didn’t damage them too much.

Some species of earthworm can even use the prehensile prostomium to grab and drag items such as grasses and leaves into their burrow.

There is a total of around 7,000 species, only about 150 species are widely distributed around the world.

The earthworm not only creates passages for air and water to traverse the soil but also modifies the vital organic component that makes a soil healthy.

Nitrogenous fertilizers tend to create acidic conditions, which are fatal to the worms.

Bumblebees Pantoum Poetry

There are some two hundred and fifty species of bumblebees
Bumble meaning to hum, buzz, drone, or move ineptly or floundering
Bumblebees have round bodies covered in soft hair called pile
Can beat their wings about two hundred times a second warming their bodies

Aokigahara in Japan Pantoum Poem

The sea of trees is a forest in Aokigahara Japan
Only thirty square meters, parts of it very dense
Making the porous lava absorb sound
Peace to visitors because of the sense of solitude

Only thirty square meters, parts of it very dense
Animals do not avoid it just listen you will hear them
Peace to visitors because of the sense of solitude
Many species of birds chirping out loudly around.

Animals do not avoid it just listen you will hear them
There are deer, foxes, and bears, so beware
Many species of birds chirping out loudly around
Be careful not to leave the official trails

There are deer, foxes, and bears, so beware
It is believed that ghost of the dead are there
Be careful not to leave the official trails
As it could be quite a nerve wrecking experience

It is believed that ghost of the dead are there
The forest floor consists primarily of volcanic rock
As it could be quite a nerve wrecking experience
Ice caves also wind caves are tourist attractions

So digging an emergency hole could be to no avail

It is believed that family would take the elderly to die

Grimms Fairytale Version – Cinderella – Pantoum Poetry – Part 2

Thank you, Theresa and Anne,  for the invitation to write my own “Cinderella” story.

Cinderella’s mother gave her precious blessings on her death-bed which were never forgotten
The king looking for a bride for the prince ordain a festival inviting all the beautiful maidens
The stepmother refuses permission for Cinderella to go as she did not have suitable clothes
Later the stepmother agrees she may go if she can do a simple task not once but twice

The king looking for a bride for the prince ordain a festival inviting all the beautiful maidens
There was much conflict building up but she remained good and kind as her mother told her
Later the stepmother agrees she may go if she can do a simple task, not one but twice
Her cruel half sisters cheated and made it harder still for her to be successful

There was much conflict building up but she remained good and kind as her mother told her
Cinderella does accomplish the task with the white doves that come’s when she sings a chant
Her cruel half sisters cheated and made it harder still for her to be successful
Not caring about the step-mother, husband and half sisters going without her

Cinderella does accomplish the task with the white doves that come’s when she sings a chant
Upset she goes to her mothers grave and ask to be clothed in silver and gold
Not caring about the stepmother, husband and half sisters going without her
The doves once again give her her wish and she looked beautiful

Upset she goes to her mothers grave and ask to be clothed in silver and gold
Dancing with the prince all night at sunrise she manages to escape from the prince
The doves once again give her her wish and she looked beautiful
After this continuing for a couple of days the third day the prince prepares a trap

Dancing with the prince all night at sunrise she manages to escape from the prince
One of her golden slippers stuck on the stairway in the pitch, now he will find her
After this continuing for a couple of days the third day the prince prepares a trap
He knows he will soon have his princess now with that golden slipper in his hand

One of her golden slippers stuck on the stairway in the pitch, now he will find her
Next day the prince set about to find out who’s foot fitted that dainty golden slipper
He knows he will soon have his princess now with that golden slipper in his hand
Those two mean step-sisters tried the slipper on their feet, but they were too large

Next day the prince set about to find out who’s foot fitted that dainty golden slipper
Cinderella father tells him that they keep a kitchen-maid in the house
Those two mean step-sisters tried the slipper on their feet, but they were too large
Even then those step-sisters insisted that the slipper would not be the kitchen-maids

Cinderella father tells him that they keep a kitchen-maid in the house
Putting the slipper on, perfect fit the prince recognizes the lady he had danced with at the ball
Even then those step-sisters insisted that the slipper would not be the kitchen-maids
Eventually, there was a wedding, she walks down the aisle with her stepsisters as her bridesmaids.

I have finished this poem with a happy ending, but if you have ever read this story it has a terrible ending, which isn’t in the interests of the younger teens that may read this.

Grimms Fairytale Version – Cinderella – Pantoum Poetry – Part 1

Cinderella’s mother gave her precious blessings on her death-bed which were never forgotten
Always remain good and kind and god will protect you
She visits her mother’s grave every day to grieve and some years goes by
Now the gentleman that was supposed to be her father remarries

Always remain good and kind and god will protect you
Cinderella remember her mother’s teaching and remained blessed
Now the gentleman that was supposed to be her father remarries
Those two mean step-sisters banish her to the kitchen

Cinderella remember her mother’s teaching and remained blessed
She had nothing to wear but rags they called her ash fool
Those two mean step-sisters banish her to the kitchen
With no place to sleep but by the ashes to keep her warm

She had nothing to wear but rags they called her ash fool
Despite all this, she remained good and kind as her mother told her
with no place to sleep but by the ashes to keep her warm
She visited her mother’s grave often crying and praying

Despite all this, she remained good and kind as her mother told her
Praying to god with hope her circumstances would improve
She visited her mother’s grave often crying and praying
Still watering the flowers she planted with her tears

Praying to god with hope her circumstances would improve
The gentleman went to town, cinderella wanted was the first twig that knocked his hat off
Still watering the flowers she planted with her tears
He brought home beautiful dresses and diamonds for her step sisters

The gentleman went to town cinderella wanted was the first twig that knocked his hat off
That twig was a hazel twig which would bring good luck to her as it grew
He brought home beautiful dresses and diamonds for her step sisters
Planting the twig over her mother’s grave she kept it watered with tears over the years

That twig was a hazel twig which would bring good luck to her as it grew
She prayed under that beautiful hazel tree three times a day
Planting the twig over her mother’s grave she kept it watered with tears over the years
A white dove came and granted her wishes by throwing down to her what she wished for

Busy Santa

His glasses are nearly falling off his nose
Santa reading his Christmas list
He is going to find out who’s been naughty
And who’s been very nice

Santa reading his Christmas list
Who’s not getting a gift for Christmas
And who’s been very nice
His head is ringing from concentration

Who’s not getting a gift for Christmas
He had better go a feed his reindeer’s
His head is ringing from concentration
Fresh air will clear his aching head

He had better go a feed his reindeer’s
If he wants them to work tonight
Fresh air will clear his aching head
He hopes they have been behaving

If he wants them to work tonight
He is going to find out who’s been naughty
He hopes they have been behaving
His glasses are nearly falling off his nose

Weaning Time for Fawns

Standing silent and relaxed
But still not looking happy
Maybe she knows it is going to happen
Animals have a soul also

But still not looking happy
It looks like she has a fawn feeding
Animals have a soul also
Penned in a shed

It looks like she has a fawn feeding
I think that fawn is going to be weaned
Penned in a shed
No one is going to be happy

I think that fawn is going to be weaned
Fawn and mother will be crying
No one is going to be happy
Farmer will be unhappy too but it has to be done

Fawn and mother will be crying
Maybe she knows it is going to happen
Farmer will be unhappy too but it has to be done
Standing silent and relaxed
