Day 30 Thirty Books

June 30, 1936. Margaret Mitchell’s book, Gone with the Wind, was published.

Your last Challenge!

Have you dreamt of writing a novel? Set a timer for thirty minutes and free write! Write whatever comes to mind, then take just a few moments to do some simple editing such as correcting grammar and spelling.

Alternative: Have you read Gone with the Wind? Do you want to read it? What books do you want to read? What books have you read that you recommend? What books do you not recommend or will you not read?

Give us your list of thirty books.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 30 – Thirty Books

I really don’t know much about books, I haven’t read one for years, I just don’t have the time to read them, so I decided to “Set a timer for thirty minutes and free write”, This is what I came up with.

Figurines and Ornaments.

As I have just finished dusting and setting all my ornaments up in the cabinet, after shifting them from my farm home, here my thought’s about figurines.

They are messy hard to handle little things, I’m afraid of breaking them, but I love them.

As a collector of beautiful art work, of subjects like landscapes, animals, birds, flowers, fruit, fairies, and angels, it had become an addiction.

They were mainly gifts given to me from my family as they knew I collected them, or I would never have had some many.

I was known for my collection, and when birthdays etc came around, these were the kind of gift’s I received, I really appreciated every one of them.

I used to spend hours sitting at my china cabinet dusting and cleaning all my fairies and angel ornaments, each one has special memories of a person dear to my heart, that gave me them, as everyone was a gift of love.

Do you collect ornaments or are you a person that think they are just clutter, taking up space?

Avon Figurines

Now that was 30 mins writing, but when I did the editing, I had been doing a lot of rambling, I deleted most of it, I think it will be a while before I write a book.

So this is the last post of “June 1 – 30 challenge”, hope you enjoyed reading my rambles.

Haiku to finish off the challenge, the vision is the photo at the top.

If time would stand still

My greatest pleasure would be

Shady tree and book.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 29 – Track Twenty-nine

train-1421710_640

Day 29 Track Twenty-nine

June 29, 1896. The St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad Company (predecessor of the St. Louis – San Francisco Railway) is incorporated.

In the old Glen Miller song “The Chattanooga Choo Choo” the train departs on Track 29.

Have you ever ridden a train? Write a post about a train. Tell us about train ride you have taken or one you’d like to take. Make up a story about a train or write a poem featuring a train. Share pictures of trains. Your choice!

 June 1-30 Challenge – Day 29 – Track Twenty-nine

No track twenty-nine this time

Making my escape from a life of crime

Crime inflicted on my body since birth

Train carriages beating a tune along the line

Echoing as we rounded the corners

Help save me, life not for mourners

What the future holds no one knows

Sheep scatters as the wheels beat a tune.

It’s time now, it’s time now,

Time what for?

What happens when the train reaches the platform

Will my life be measured by more pain

Or will it be back to track twenty-nine

To depart again singing “The Chattanooga Choo Choo” song.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 28 – Dominoes

Dominos

Day 28 Twenty-eight Dominoes

June 28, 1914. Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, was assassinated in Sarajevo along with his wife, Duchess Sophie. This assassinated started a domino effect resulting in World War I.

There are 28 dominoes in a full set of dominoes. Do you like to play dominoes? Do you like to play games? Why or Why not? What are your favorite games? Tell us about a time you played a game with friends or family.

Or write about The Big Game from your high school or college days.

Maybe you don’t like game playing, especially in relationships. Write about that.

Alternative: Write about your favorite pizza.

 June 1-30 Challenge – Day 28 – Dominoes

As a child I had my own Domino set it was a game I enjoyed playing, I used to play with my sisters, but the pieces started slowly disappearing, I couldn’t find them anywhere, I think my sisters took them as they were jealous of me having the game, I never ever found them to this day what happened to them, I would have loved to know where they went.

I had three sisters, we had a board game each, used to take turns playing the games, the main one I remember was Snakes and Ladders, but we never played them very much as there were always fights about someone cheating so I never really got into playing board games.

These days I play cards on my Computer or Cellphone. I have one on my cellphone called “Solitaire Suite” which has some fifty card games on it, I have become addicted to one called “Addiction” I haven’t won a game yet, but I will, I have now six stars, I have only had my cell phone a couple of months, I do limit my time playing as I don’t want it to become a bad habit “always having my cell phone in front of my eyes” after all I do have a husband, home, and farm to look after.

I just need to mention another habit I have, that is jigsaw puzzles, I know that’s not a game but I love doing 1000 pieced puzzle, especially at night, sometimes very late in the evening, if it wasn’t for my husband telling me it was bedtime I most likely would stay up all night doing them, keeps my brains turning over when I’m not writing.

As for Dominoes, what I really enjoy watching, is Dominoes the Toppling of Dominoes Stones, all the energy arranging them, the beautiful mosaics that are created with them, I wonder how long it rates to pick up all those thousands and thousand pieces after they have been toppled?

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 27 – Twenty-seven Sentences

salad-1477486_640

Day 27 Twenty-seven Sentences

June 27, 1927. On this date, the United States Marine Corps adopted the English bulldog as their official mascot.

Write about any subject. You can write about a Marine, a bulldog, or an Englishman if you’d like. You can write about anything! But you must write exactly twenty-seven sentences. No more. No less.

Alternative: Write a poem with 27 words or syllables.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 27 – Twenty-seven Sentences

Twenty-seven Nonsense Sentences telling you how to made the salad above from A to Z.

Anticipate what this salad is going to taste like.

Before we start we have a picture of the finished dish above, let’s see what we can come up with.

Cucumber has a taste on its own, not everyone likes it, though.

Do I need an onion or spring onion to add more flavor, could help, but which one?

Even a little vinegar could be tasteful in the dressing.

Find a semi-hot a mustard to give the dressing a little bite.

Give the tomatoes a little sugar to stop the heartburn.

Half a dozen washed radish tops to make those little faces.

If I add some cloves for the radish eyes, I hope no one is turned off the salad by the smell.

Juice from a lemon will certainly add extra flavor.

Knead the dough for the Chinese steamed buns and put it in the oven to cook, still in the oven, that’s why you can;t see any buns.

Let the lettuce drain after washing.

Move all the slugs from the lettuce,

Now for a nice dish to serve it on, which could be cooled in the fridge to keep the salad cool, but I’m running out of time.

Orange peel to be grated, that could add the little more color to the dish.

Put a little salt on the table.

Quick, I had better get a move on, it nearly time to eat.

Red hot peppers look nice and add an extra taste to the salad.

Slithers of a radish placed around the tomato pieces.

Take extra care when placing the eyes and nose to the tomatoes face.

Usually, a little extra care will make or break a salad, maybe  added too much to this dish.

Very nice idea lets have a look and see what I’ve missed.

Washed everything, hope those mosquitoes keep away from the salad when I place it on the deck table.

Xiaolongbao – is a type of Chinese steamed bun to eat with the salad, in case you wonder what those Chinese buns were.

Yellow hot peppers would have been nice, but wasn’t able to find any in the store.

Zest for flavor, which ones would you add to finished off this nonsense twenty-seven lines sentences for making a salad?

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 26 – Marathon

sports-731506_640

Day 26 Marathon

June 26, 2016. Marathons are being held today in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Santa Cruz, California; Lubec, Maine; and Arlington, Virginia. The race in Arlington is indoors.

I’m not doing any of them. I may run or ride a few miles, though.

A marathon is 26.2 miles. Marathoners don’t start out running 26.2 miles! They start small and train for it. They work hard to reach that distance.

Tell us about something you worked for. Something you thought you might never accomplish, but you did.

If you have actually run a marathon, you can write about that!

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 26 – Marathon

I admire people that can run a Marathon.

My son could, he runs most days and is very fit, but it takes more than fitness to be able to run a Marathon, the official distance is 42.195 kilometres (26.219 miles, or 26 miles 385 yards).

In New Zealand it would be 42.195 kilometers, that seems to me a long way, and it is.

When I was in my fifties I walked five miles, it was a walk run race with spot prizes at the end, I did get to the end, but I could hardly stand up at the end, nearly fainted, I never tried doing it again, you need to train, not just decide the week before that you are going to walk or run in a race.

I only went because a friend wanted me to walk with her, glad I tried it but I will leave it to the professionals.

I’m a walker, on our farm I can walk around trip on our 171 hectares of five miles, but that’s a little different, gumboots and cow ruts, usually animals following me to new pasture.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 25 – Photo Challenge

birthday-1477427_640

Day 25 Photo Challenge

June 25, 1967. Broadcasting of the first live global satellite television program took place on this date. It was a show called Our World

Alternative: Post a picture representing the number 25. It can be twenty-five items, twenty-five people, or something showing the number 25.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 25 – Photo Challenge

Blessings, Hope you have a wonderful day. Keep Smiling.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 24 – Twenty-four Carat Gold

engagement-1361074_640

Day 24 Twenty-four Carat Gold

June 24, 1509.  Henry VIII was crowned King of England.

Henry the eighth valued a male heir. He wanted one. He wanted a wife who could give him one. He left the Church and created his own church so he could get divorced and marry a new wife.

Twenty-four carat gold is valuable. Some value riches above all else.

Tell us what is valuable to you. What do you treasure? Write about your treasure.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 24 – Twenty-four Carat Gold

What is Twenty-four Carat Gold?

Karats measure the parts per 24, so that 18 karat = 18/24 = 75% and 24 karat gold is considered 100% gold.

What Do I Treasure?

I treasure everything, but I don’t have anything at all that’s Twenty-four Caret Gold.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 23 In or Out

machupicchu-1465554_640

Day 23 In or Out

June 23, 2016. Britain votes today whether to stay in the European Union or get out of it.  The choice is simple: In or Out. But the ramifications of a vote to leave are complex and uncertain.

Have you ever had to choose In or Out? Maybe it was a job that you didn’t like. Or a business deal. Maybe you were in a relationship where you had to choose In or Out.

Write about making a simple but difficult choice.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 23 In or Out

Kathleen Duncan’s June 1 to 30 challenge, has been a challenge on its own to me, completely different to an average challenge it has pushed me to my limits every day to come up with a post.

So today “In or out” I have never had to worry about this subject, if I applied for a job I usually got it, if I went in I always come out with the job, it was much easier getting a job fifty years ago.

Another thought – that’s what an enter and exit sign means, In or Out”.

Here’s a challenge for my readers today about the photo above ” If you entered the plot of mazes with all the in’s and outs, how would you know if you were “in or out” of the maze?

Haiku – In or Out.

Walking through the maze

Wondering if in or out

Lost no fun at all.

Today’s post was written using the above photo, to me looks like a maze, “How do you know if you are in or out of that Scene”? Thank you for reading.

One more week to the end of June.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 22 – Catch 22

william-1465428_640

Day 22 Catch 22

June 22, 1933. Germany became a one political party country when Hitler banned parties other than the Nazis.

The movie Catch 22 is about the insanity of war. It takes place during WWII

According to the Oxford Dictionary, a catch 22 is “a dilemma or difficult circumstance from which there is no escape because of mutually conflicting or dependent conditions”.

Write about a time you were in a catch 22. Or write a fictional piece about a catch 22.

Alternative:

June 22, 1944. U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt signed the “GI Bill of Rights” to provide broad benefits for veterans of the war.

We’ve heard of the “Voters’ Bill of Rights”, “Patients’ Bill of Rights”, and “The Bill of Rights” made up of the first ten amendments to the Constitution.

Today you get write your own Bill of Rights. What “Rights” do you want to award to yourself or your family?

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 22 – Catch 22

My Fictional Story about “catch 22”.

An example of “Catch 22” would be: To apply for a job, you need to have a few years of experience. But in order to gain experience, you need to get a job first.

Bill and a couple of his friends had all been having a few drinks at the local pub, later they returned back to Bills home in the country, they had brought a carton of booze to continue drinking while watching a film on TV.

As the film was getting a bit sexy, they started discussing what they would do to try and find a nice girl to spend the rest of their life with.

Jose decided that he wouldn’t be happy with one woman, so he chooses to stay single and enjoy every moment that he had with a lady, as he wasn’t going to be tired down by anyone, as he had plans for his life and it didn’t include marriage.

Bill told him in that case he would miss out on fulfilling his dream, as that wasn’t the way to go about life.

It wasn’t long before the booze had taken over and they fell asleep in front of the TV.

That’s when Jose had an intimidating dream, he could see women floating pass him and his two friends looking on as the woman keep on floating by and he couldn’t even touch one of them they were all out of reach, disappearing into the atmosphere.

All of a sudden Bill woke up from a terrifying noise like someone was dying, looking at his mates he saw Jose with his arms out stretched grabbing at the thin air in the room, gasping for breath.

Jose could still see the picture in his dream of the women floating by, half awake he looked up wondering why Bill was reaching out to him.

That was when he changed his mind about playing around with all the ladies, they just may float away and he couldn’t find someone to keep him happy in his golden years.

So this is were my example at the beginning comes in with the “Catch 22” – To find a nice lady to be your partner for life, it takes years of caring, loving and being faithful to one woman to gain trust, but first he needed to find a lady to shared his life with and he wasn’t going to do that by grabbing every female that he set his eyes on, so it just wasn’t right to take on any women just for the greed of lust if you wanted a life of bliss.

In every was there are men and women worthy of honor for their sacrifices and bravery.

The Twenty-one gun salute is the military’s way of honoring someone. Who would you like to honor? Who do you consider a hero? Write about him or her.

Alternative: What would like to be honored for? How would you like to be honored?

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 21 – Twenty-one Gun Salute

This is a hard one, I will pick Prince William as June 21st is his birthday born in 1982 so he can have the twenty-one Gun Salute being his day, the future King of England.

Prince_William_February_2015

William is the eldest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana who is second in line, after his father, to become the head of the 53-member Commonwealth of Nations and the constitutional monarch of 16 sovereign states.
