The Dragonfly is an insect I loved flying around our pond on the farm their beautiful colors and the way its body and transparent wings sparkled as it flitted above the water lilies on a nice warm day is quite amazing.

While searching I found something I was totally unaware of, most of the dragonflies life was spent in the nymph form, beneath the surface of the water, while in that form they eat mosquito larvae, plus other things, they can live this stage from between two months to three years, when they are ready to metamorphose into an adult, they climb up on an emerged plant, and once exposed to air the larva begins breathing, the skin splits and a dragonfly it formed, it can last some five or six months.

I used to wonder, where they stayed before adult stage, but I have never seen this, would love to find them though.

    • Yes, there’s something special about dragonflies, they always catch my eyes when flying around, giving me a smile that warms my heart, I think you will understand that feeling also. Thanks for the nice comment and have a great day.
