#Weekly Tanka Prompt #Poetry Challenge – Week 86 – Tales & Believers

The “Weekly Tanka Challenge Prompt” is now also a Poetry Prompt Challenge (any form).

Use the weekly poetry prompt “tales & believers”  to write a poem – any form, your choice.

I have been trying a few new ones, you may like to try one yourself.

Sidlak Poetry is a structured poetry consisting of five lines with 3-5-7-9 syllables and a color. The last line must be a color that describes the whole poem or the feeling of the writer.

Etheree Poetry – Syllabic Pattern: 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10, Rhyme: None

Reverse Etheree Poetry The only difference is that the syllabic count is reversed: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

Triolet  Poetry is a poem of fixed rhythmical form, with repeated lines. It is made up of eight lines with a set rhyming scheme.

The Structure of a Triolet Poem

A Triolet consists of 8 lines.
The rhyming scheme is:
AB, aA, abAB

Line 1, 4 and 7 are the same line repeated
So are lines 2 and 8.

Haiku/Senryu Poetry

Here is an in-depth description of Haiku/Senryu Poem (also called human haiku) is an unrhymed Japanese verse consisting of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables (5, 7, 5) or 17 syllables in all. Senryu is usually written in the present tense and only references to some aspect of human nature or emotions. They possess no references to the natural world and thus stand out from nature/seasonal haiku.

Shadorma Poetry is a Spanish poetic form.

A poem of six lines 3-5-3-3-7-5 syllables no set rhyme scheme.

It can have many stanzas, as long as each follows the meter. 

Bussokusekika Poetry – a pattern of 5-7-5-7-7-7

A Tanka poem with an extra phrase of seven added on at the end.

Retourne Poetry

Retourne is a French form of poetry.  Retourne is in tetrameter,  sixteen lines, eight syllables per line, does not require a specific rhyme scheme.

Stanza 2 line 1 repeats Stanza 1 line 2 

Stanza 3 line 1 repeats Stanza 1 line 3 

Stanza 4 line 1 repeats Stanza 1 Line 4

Tanka Poetry consists of five units, usually with the following pattern of    5-7-5-7-7 which is syllables.

The first three lines (5/7/5) are the upper phase. This upper stage is where you create an image in your reader’s mind.

The last two lines (7/7) of a Tanka poem are called the lower phase.  The final two lines should express the poet’s ideas about the image that was created in the three lines above.

Lifetime pet loved by all of us
turned into an Irritable grumpy old dog
He was not trustworthy with his mood
So off to the vet he went in a cage

News was not good he had cancer
The vet advised us to put him down
Tears ran freely loosing our best friend
we knew he was not an everlasting mate.

I wrote this post last Tuesday morning 20th of February before Cyclone Geta hit Taranaki, we got the power back on Friday afternoon, and water supply that night.

It is now Sunday afternoon, I’m posting this Day 21,  of the “February Writing Prompt” but I will not write the last seven posts for this challenge, not feeling the best, resting up, my head will not focus, feeling nauseous. I will do the “Weekly Tanka Challenge” next week, otherwise, I will have a break from writing.

Still reading all my followers post, just not writing.

Sorry, this week “Weekly Tanka Prompt #Poetry Challenge – Week 85″,  is late, Cyclone Geta hit Taranaki on Tuesday, with winds up to 140 km an hour, two days later we still have no power and no water to wash, shower or other conveniences. Conspiracy Against Cupid

Many times reading about our love symbol, Cupid
It is said that they will “rip his chubby arms off”
That’s not very nice, why say things like that
I would consider it a conspiracy against Cupid.

They say that they will “rip his chubby arms off,
a chubby toddler coming at me with a weapon
Falling in love is dying by the cupid bow
Stupid Cupid keeps calling me and I see nothing

That’s not very nice, why say things like that
Who was cupid to meddle in peoples love life?
A supernatural phenomenon is known as Cupid
Without Cupid, who else would have that arrow?

I would consider it a conspiracy against cupid
As they say, they have put clips on his wings
So he is forced to fly in circles about our head
I consider someones conspired against Cupid.

What is Reversed Etheree Poetry?

  • Like the Etheree, it is a decastitch (10-line stanza) with an emphasis on the syllabic count of each line.
  • The only difference is that the syllabic count is reversed: 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1
  • It is unrhymed.

Gun Quandaries

The gun law in American is in a rather precarious position
Who believes that now is not the time to do something about it?
To me, as an outsider, gun laws in America need more control
and now is the time to do something, don’t keep putting it off

If anyone has a doubt on what to do, take a look at other countries
Politicians need to remember the dangerous situation they are in.
People they serve want help in controlling the gun laws, the deaths
and killings of so many of their loved ones especially children must stop.

This is dedicated to the families in Florida who lost their loved ones in the recent school shooting. I watch CNN, following the stress of all the people suffering, and felt the sadness as if it was my own children, I hope one day there will be a change in the law and that guns are not so readily available for everyone.

I think that today’s prompt “Precarious Quandaries” fits the shootings at Florida High school nicely because of the replies by the politicians and the leader of America.

Quandaries mean – a state of perplexity or uncertainty over what to do in a difficult situation in which you are involved. doubt, indecision, the jury is still out.
