Five Days to Christmas 2017- Tanka Poem

tree decorated
presents in hiding for now
until Christmas Eve
remember my days searching
for gifts that never arrived

You may think that this tanka poem a little strange, but it was very true, when we were small we did get little gifts, ( born in wartime years), at the age of nine or ten my parents stopped buying Christmas presents, on Christmas morning we were given ten shillings every year, I saved mine up after six years I bought a signet ring in cost about three pounds, in those days our currency was pounds, shillings, and pence. In 1967 (I think that was the year) New Zealand currency changed to dollars and cents.

  1. I used to get winter gloves and underwear, so I made sure to try and spoil my sons with lots of fun gifts, even when times were lean. Beautiful tanka with an unexpected ending. I like the photo, also. Merry Christmas to you and your family ❤
