Day 26 Marathon

June 26, 2016. Marathons are being held today in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; Santa Cruz, California; Lubec, Maine; and Arlington, Virginia. The race in Arlington is indoors. 

I’m not doing any of them. I may run or ride a few miles, though. 

A marathon is 26.2 miles. Marathoners don’t start out running 26.2 miles! They start small and train for it. They work hard to reach that distance.

Tell us about something you worked for. Something you thought you might never accomplish, but you did.

June 1-30 Challenge – Day 26 – Marathon

I admire people that can run a Marathon.

My son could, he runs most days and is very fit, but it takes more than fitness to be able to run a Marathon, the official distance is 42.195 kilometres (26.219 miles, or 26 miles 385 yards).

In New Zealand it would be 42.195 kilometers, that seems to me a long way, and it is.

When I was in my fifties I walked five miles, it was a walk run race with spot prizes at the end, I did get to the end, but I could hardly stand up at the end, nearly fainted, I never tried doing it again, you need to train, not just decide the week before that you are going to walk or run in a race.

I only went because a friend wanted me to walk with her, glad I tried it but I will leave it to the professionals.

I’m a walker, on our farm I can walk around trip on our 171 hectares of five miles, but that’s a little different, gumboots and cow ruts, usually animals following me to new pasture.
