I could have written about Christchurch, everyone knows about Christchurch and the Earthquake that killed so many people, instead I choose Carterton in the North Island of New Zealand
Monday, April 4 C – Carterton
Carterton is a small town in the Wellington region it lies in a farming community in the Wairarapa.
It is located 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) southwest of Masterton and 80 kilometres (50 mi) northeast of Wellington.
The town has a population of 5,030 (June 2015 estimate), out of a total district population of 8,800.
I have spent many hours in Carterton, searching for headstones of ancestors that lived there back in the days of World War 1, enjoying the township very much.
Carterton claimed to be the first place in the world with a transsexual mayor.
The Railway station building is original, having been built when the railway opened in 1880 and has accepted passenger services ever since.
